Dr. William (Bill) Haugeberg will be the Assistant Professor of Trombone at East Carolina University, starting in the Fall 2024. Before ECU, Bill taught at the University of Texas - Rio Grande Valley, Tarleton State University, and Albany State University.
As a soloist, Bill has been featured with the San Angelo Symphony Orchestra, Valley Wind Symphony, UTRGV Wind Symphony, Tarleton Wind Symphony, Florida State University Wind Symphony, Missouri State University Trombone Octet and other groups. He will be recording and releasing his album Trombone Time w/ Dr. Bill in early Fall of 2024 with pianist Kenneth Saxon and cellist Natalie Haugeberg. This album features new works for the trombone, including: Brazilian Sonata by Jimmy Kachulis, a suite of Piazzolla tangos with cello arranged by Anthony Wise, Stereogram No. 12 by David Brubeck, Two Latin Dances by Lauren Bernofsky, Sonatina by Jan Koetsier, and Air Varie by Arthur Pryor.
Bill has been a soloist and presenter at several festivals and is active in the International Trombone Association as an adjudicator and performer. At the 2024 ITF, Bill performed a recital with Jason Hausback as the Connexus Trombone Duo and at previous festivals (2022, 2021 and 2019), Bill has performed on the artist showcase series, judged the final round of several competitions, performed with the William Cramer Professor’s Choir, premiered several new works through the Composer’s Workshop, and performed a solo recital Trombone and Strings. In addition to his activity with the International Trombone Festivals, Bill has also performed at the South Texas Brass Symposium, Big 12 Trombone Conference, the TCU Trombone Summit, Texas Music Educator’s Convention, Texas Bandmaster’s Association Convention, International Horn Workshop and other festivals.
Bill currently performs with 956 Brass, Session Brass Quintet, Connexus Trombone Duo, ReBL Trombone Quartet and is a founding member of the Bell Street Four Trombone Quartet - winners of the 2008 ITF Quartet Competition. These ensembles have performed at the Texas Music Educator’s Association Convention, the International Trombone Festival, the International Horn Workshop, the Mid-South Horn Workshop, the Big 12 Trombone Conference, the TCU Trombone Summit, the South Texas Brass Symposium, and frequently performs at universities and other music festivals.
As an orchestral musician, Bill has performed with the Valley Symphony Orchestra, Mid-Texas Symphony, Richardson Symphony Orchestra, Reno Philharmonic, Elko Philharmonic, Fairbanks Symphony, Fairbanks Opera Orchestra, Tallahassee Symphony, Sinfonia Gulf Coast, Albany Symphony Orchestra, Allen Philharmonic and San Angelo Symphony.
Bill earned his Doctor of Music from The Florida State University, Master of Music from The University of North Texas, and Bachelor of Music from The University of Alaska Fairbanks. Bill loves playing on his Willson Swissbone, and is a Willson Performing Artist.
